SEBOKENG. – Fans wait in anticipation to hear Masedi Mokhothu’s (28) new song Neng Neng which has already become popular in social media. Masedi, as he is affectionately known by his fans, is one local artist who is set to take the South African music industry by storm – with 80% of his music in Sotho. The song Neng Neng, meaning ‘sometimes it’s all about motivation’, is directed mainly at young people. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster this weekend, Masedi said the song is all about ‘hanging in there’ because in love sometimes you lose.
He told Sedibeng Ster that he can’t wait to launch this new song, a Sotho mix-song as part of promoting Sotho music. He said he wants to focus more on Sotho music or songs, seeing that most artists sing their songs and/or music in English. His music is unique and loved by young people even though most of his songs are in Sotho.
He said the World Boy Wide, which is his music production company, uses music to promote sports, entertainment, arts and culture. “I want to promote our own language; hence I sing most of my songs in Sotho. We must be proud of our language and World Boys Wide will be taking the world music by storm. I want to thank the Sedibeng people for supporting my music and responding positively to the Sotho songs, especially young people,” he said.
Masedi told Sedibeng Ster that he is still affected by the passing of one his friends and partners in music who died in a car accident last year. Masedi said a highlight of his music career was performing at the Africa Connect Music Festival and his biggest dream is to tour the world and perform internationally. He said he has shared the stage with some high-profile artists in South Africa.
Interestingly, Masedi said it never crossed his mind that one day he would be an artist. He said he started his music career at the age of 26 when he started to fall in love with a music career. He told Sedibeng Ster that he was a soccer player and he was very talented, playing in the dusty streets of Zone 14.

Masedi said his father and brother are his inspirations and are his best friends. He looks up to them for advice. In conclusion, Masedi encourages young people to go to school and get education. “Look, I went to school to get education because, in life, without education, you will struggle.
