Three robbery suspects behind bars, five still at large

The suspects are facing charges of business robbery, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

 

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Three suspects were arrested following a robbery in Vanderbijlpark last Monday. They are facing charges of business robbery.

The three were nabbed in less than an hour after the robbery took place and they were found with an undisclosed amount of money. Five other suspects are still on the run. The three suspects aged between 31 and 37 are still blinking behind bars as the matter is under investigation.

The suspects are facing charges of business robbery, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. It is alleged that suspects entered Kotwals Motor Spares at approximately 15:00 where they demanded cash from the shop owner at gunpoint. The victim’s son arrived while the robbery was still in progress and was also robbed. Two more suspects held other employees at gunpoint.

Rumour has it that one of the suspects is an employee at the Motors Spares. It has been alleged that at the time of the robbery, he was on duty. After an undisclosed amount of cash and cellular phones were taken from the victims, the suspects fled the scene using two mini coopers. Police were informed and immediately conducted a search and arrested three suspects in the Vanderbijlpark are. Sergeant Gertrude Makhale, police spokesperson, said an unlicensed firearm and ammunition believed to have been used in the commission of the robbery were confiscated. A suspected stolen vehicle and large amounts of cash and cellular phones suspected to have been taken from the victims were recovered. The other suspects are still at large as the search is continued.
