Midvaal condemns criminal acts in R59 protest

A case of Public Violence has been opened at Meyerton Police Station. The Midvaal CFP and SAPS are closely monitoring the situation.

MEYERTON. – The Midvaal Local Municipality has noted with great concern the criminal activities on R59 around Sicelo informal settlement.

The municipality confirmed reports of certain residents from Sicelo throwing stones at vehicles driving on R59. Two trucks were barricaded by two private vehicles stationed inside the road (R59) closing both lanes. Both trucks were then stoned and torched, fortunately the drivers managed to escape unharmed.

The Midvaal Fire Department and Community Policing Forum (CPF) responded with speed and managed to extinguish the fire.

A case of Public Violence has been opened at Meyerton Police Station. The Midvaal CFP and SAPS are closely monitoring the situation.  The Public Order Policing Unit is on the ground around the area to ensure that tomorrow, 08 May 2018, voting runs smoothly with any interruption.

The municipality condemns these criminal actions which seek to undermine our hard earned democracy with the strongest possible terms, and further calls on SAPS to make the arrest and ensure free and fair elections.

We urge the residents to report any incidents of this nature and further providing information that may lead to the arrest of the culprits of these criminal activities.

The municipality would also like to advise residents to be vigilant when driving or walking around R59, next to Sicelo informal settlement.
