Young couple brutally killed in zone 7

The two are said to have been on their way to Lethoba’s parents home in Zone 7 from a friend’s funeral in Meyerton. Lethoba’s body was found the following morning among the trees not far from the UK soccer grounds, with several stab wounds.

SEBOKENG. – A young couple, Jeffery Lethoba (25) and Matshidiso Kareli (25) was brutally killed next to the UK soccer grounds in Zone 7, Sebokeng on Saturday afternoon. The incident happened after the popular UK Easter Tournament Games when a gunshot was heard.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Jacob “Makgwaba” Motsoari, who is the community activist heading safety in Zone 7 said he was on his way home after the games when he heard a gunshot from the direction of the UK soccer ground.

Motsoari said he was called to the scene and on arrival found the young woman in a pool of blood next to the grounds. She had apparently been shot dead. Motsoari said he suspected this was something to do with crime because it happened shortly after the games at around 18:00.

The two are said to have been on their way to Lethoba’s parents home in Zone 7 from a friend’s funeral in Meyerton. Lethoba’s body was found the following morning among the trees not far from the UK soccer grounds, with several stab wounds.

“I heard a gunshot from a distance when I was on my way home from the games, but I thought nothing of it until I was called to the scene. I don’t know what the motive was but it seems as if it was a robbery. We found the body of the young man the following day next to the trees not far from the soccer grounds.”

The deceased’s father, Jacob Lethoba said both families are heartbroken by the deaths.  “My wife and I called them several times to make sure that they were okay. They told us that they were ok and on their way home. We are very sad because these children did not deserve to die this way,” he said.

The young couple was described as lovebirds and they are said to have always been together. At the time of their death they  were staying together in Muvhango, Bophelong. Lethoba was a former student at Jeppe College in Vereeniging while Kareli who was his fiancé  was a student at Sedibeng College in Sebokeng. Police are investigating.
