A well informed and empowered community is what we, as Vanderbijlpark SAPS, strive towards, as we keep fighting the good fight against crime. Such a well-informed community is more alert and detour criminals. The following weekend crime trends were reported.

CRIME IN GENERAL Crime in general over the weekend shows an increase with Robbery aggravating, business breaking and House robbery, the rest of the crime has decreased. Rape Occurred in Ericson street CE1 a 15year old victim was walking with her friend when five (5) suspects approached them robbed them their belongings, Boom-box speaker and the back bag, suspects then pulled the victims to the open veld and raped the victim. The Vanderbijlpark SAPS is investigating a rape case anyone with information about the incident is requested to come forward as any information that can be of assistance with the investigation.

Robbery Aggravating:

Took place in Gillespie Street CE4 victim and her friend were walking in the street when they were approached by three (3) unknown suspects one in possession of a knife that he used to stab the victim. Suspects robbed the victims their cell phones and fled away. A passer-by who saw the victim crying stopped his vehicle to assist and managed to chase the suspects arrested two (2) suspects apprehended them to the police. Vanderbijlpark SAPS will like to applause the bravery of the community member. 2 nd incident took place in Alberti Street CE2 victim from Heidelburg alleges he was in Vanderbijlpark to deliver the machine he was selling to the buyer who later became the suspects. Victim met with the buyer who took him from pillar to post to collect the money from one (1) Indian friend, African male and to six (6) unknown suspects who alleged to be police officials. Suspect’s work together to confuse the victims and rob them cash by means of withdrawing a lot of cash from different local banks. Victims are coming from all over the provinces and robbed with the same modus operandi, sometimes the modus operandi includes suspects showing the victims diamond and the same bogus alleged police will pretend to be arresting the victim or threaten the victim to withdraw a lot of cash so that he or she may not be arrested. Police are alerting the community about such incidents as now we are receiving complaints of the same modus operandi we will also like to warn the community these suspects as they use websites to be potential buyers.

House breaking:

House breaking affected all the Sectors although SE and CW area were leading with house breakings, followed by Bophelong and SW area items such as TV’s, laptops, home theatre system, electrical tools, travel bag, braai stand whiskeys and jewellery were stolen.

Theft of motor Vehicle:

A red Toyota Hilux was stolen in Bophelong Ext.8, blue Ford ranger, white Volvo truck, Nissan Sentra vehicles were stolen in the CBD, Nissan bakkie stolen in CE 5, Ford tracer stolen in CE2, Toyota Hilux bakkie stolen in Mantevrede and a Ford ranger stolen in Zuurfontein Plots.

Successes:

Vanderbijlpark SAPS has managed to arrest a total of 32 people over the weekend for various crimes. 2 people for robbery aggravating, 2 for common robbery, 3 people for interfering with SAPS, 1 murder, 2 people for Drugs, 2 people for Drunk and Driving, 4 for assault to cause grievous bodily harm, 1 for assault common D\V related, 1 for contempt of court, 1 for failing to comply with a court order, 3 people for shoplifting, 3 people for theft, 4 people for malicious damage to property, and 3 people for possession of suspected stolen property.
