Sedibeng water police recover firearms from river

VEREENIGING. – On Friday January 19, members of Sedibeng water police divers and Johannesburg divers were assisting detectives looking for items disposed of in the Vaal River near Vereeniging.
While searching the area for the said items the members managed to find two firearms which had been lying in the river for quite some time. The firearms were not part of the investigation the divers assisted the detectives with. The firearms were also rusted and no serial numbers could be checked. According to Warrant Officer Martin Seaman, Communication Officer, the firearms were handed in to Vereeniging SAPS and further follow up will be done to try and trace the origins of the said firearms. The divers who took part in the search are W/O Wallis,W/O Rossouw and W/O Vermaak of the Sedibeng Water Police. Kapt Brandt, W/O Maritz, W/O Maludsi, Sgt Waldman and Sgt Putter of Johannesburg Divers.
