AFRIKAANS REPORT BELOW:

MEYERTON. – What was supposed to be a fun-filled sportsday, turned into chaos when Midvaal was hit by a microburst of heavy rain and strong wind yesterday (18 January).

Some of the athletes who were preparing to take part in their respective items at Hoërskool Dr Malan burst out in tears as they fled the storm.

Mrs. Bernadette Marais Van Zyl says she drove all the way from Brakpan to see her grandson taking part in the sports event. “The storm was bad and we arrived at the school just in time to see the kids getting back into the buses. My grandson was drenched!”

Athletes, parents and teachers from as far as Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp also had to bend the knee to the bad weather and return home.

MEYERTON.

My kleinseun was papnat!” sê sy.

Atlete, ouers en onderwysers van so ver as Potchefstroom en Klerksdorp moes ook die knie voor die swaar weer buig en terugkeer huis toe.
