VEREENIGING. – On November 14 at around 18:00 Fidelity ADT Response Officer Paul Direko was patrolling in the Three Rivers area when he noticed three suspicious looking men standing close to a premises at the corner of Generaal Hertzog and Waterkant Street.
“It looked as though they were handing items over the wall,” says Officer Direko.
He immediately contacted the Fidelity ADT Vaal Control Centre to establish if the premises in question was a client and was informed that it was not. The officer then parked a safe distance from the property and approached the premises keeping an eye on the suspects.
“As soon as the suspects saw me, they attempted to get away on foot,” he says. He then chased the suspects while calling for back-up. Two of the suspects managed to get away but he caught one suspect who had all the stolen goods in his possession.
Elizna Schulz, Fidelity ADT Vaal Branch Manager, says a woman arrived and informed the Officers on site that the house belonged to her mother who was in hospital.
“The Vereeniging SAPS arrived on the scene, the stolen items were handed back to the women and the suspect was taken into custody,” she reports.
“We generally see a spike in crime leading up to December so we are urging all residents to be vigilant about setting their alarms and making sure that vehicles are parked securely. Please also be extra cautious when entering and exiting your property. Make sure no one is standing at the gate or in the road. If you see anything suspicious please contact the SAPS or your security provider immediately,” she says.
