VANDERBIJLPARK. – Neighbours are on the war-path following the third attack this weekend of two pitbulls in Bessemer Street

For Thabang Seko, who walked down the street, life turned into a nightmare when the two Pitbulls, a male and female, attacked him in the street. Bystanders helped get the dogs off him. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

According to residents in Bessemer Street this was the third time these two dogs had come through the gate to attack people. Pitbulls and Rottweilers are, according to media statistics, the main cause of human attacks.

The best advice for an attack by a dog is to get hold of the dog’s collar and lift him up as high as possible until he/she can be released. The use of a belt or rope can also be used around the neck. The other method is to stick an object into the side of the dog’s mouth until he/she can be released. Never kick or hit a pitbull. He won’t let go. In general and depending on training and circumstances, pitbulls are very loving dogs but can also be very temperamental, especially when provoked.
