VUT students host spectacular charity tournament

VANDERBIJLPARK. – VUT B-Tech and Public Relations students hosted a successful one-day charity tournament at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark over the weekend.

The four Safa Sedibeng SAB League teams that formed part of this 2nd annual charity soccer spectacular were VUT FC, Metro Stars FC, Vaal United and NWU Vaal FC. The NWU Vaal FC was crowned the tournament champion after they beat Metro Stars FC 3 – 0 in an exciting final.
Speaking after the final NWU Vaal FC head coach Thomas Tema said this tournament helps him to keep his team on track seeing that the SAB League has not yet started.

“I want to thank the organisers of the tournament for inviting us to be part of this initiative because it helps us a lot as we are still unsure when the SAB League is going to start.This is the second year we participated in this tournament and we are humbled to be part of this initiative to help those who are in need because the tournament was part of charity.

“I will take this performance from this tournament going forward,” he told Sedibeng Ster Sport.mSpeaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport the VUT B-Tech and Public Relations students said that as much as the tournament is part of their studies – charity is something that is close to their hearts. They told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they wanted to help those who are in need in the community.

“We want to thank those teams who accepted our invitations to participate in this charity tournament. We also want to thank the stakeholders and the Sedibeng community for coming in numbers including our fellow VUT students for their support. It was a great day of football throughout”
