SEDIBENG. – Account number- 420502084, branch code 051001 at Standard Bank are the details residents can use to pay their Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) services.
These banking detail were given to Sedibeng Ster to disseminate to readers who had any doubt about ELM still having any association with Munnick, Basson and Da Gama Inc (MBD).
Sedibeng Ster reported last week (photo) that according to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Kingsol Chabalala, who is the DA Constituency Head in Emfuleni North, a vast number of municipal account holders still claim that MBD is threatening them with letters and SMSs demanding payment.
In response to Chabalala’s allegations the ELM has stood its ground and said that, “MBD is no more”, this is after they had issued a statement a week earlier to this effect.
ELM Executive Mayor Jacob Khawe said: “In most of my public addresses including the Emfuleni Local Council, I have reiterated that I will not rest until all these unscrupulous contracts are terminated including that of MBD debt collectors. Upon my arrival at the Municipality, I instituted a process to terminate the contract of MBD following investigations on its viability.
“This was the first step I took in stopping this harassment by MBD of the residents of Emfuleni Local Municipality. During the last Council sitting of the 31st August 2018, I circulated a termination letter to all councillors as proof to stop MBD from its operations with Emfuleni,” reiterrated Khawe.
He further said that this was not a form of political grandstanding and that it was an action necessary upon hearing the cries of the people of Emfuleni to this long standing pain to both residents and the ELM.
“Without any fear or contradiction, the people of Emfuleni should by all means not pay even a single cent to MBD attorneys,” Khawe said.
