Menza revives professional football in Sedibeng

Absa Premier League sided with Free State Stars and a Menza Sports Group Invitation team. As expected the local soccer fans came in numbers to support the initiative and support their favourite teams. SEDIBENG. – Good news for the Sedibeng football fraternity is that professional football is on its way back in this region. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Menza Sports Group founder Senzo Mazingisa after the inaugural pre-season tournament.

These four teams’ pre-season tournament took place at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark over the weekend. The teams that formed part of this one-day event were two National First Division teams, Mbombela United and Galaxy FC.

Absa Premier League sided with Free State Stars and a Menza Sports Group Invitation team. As expected the local soccer fans came in numbers to support the initiative and support their favourite teams. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Mazingisa said Menza Sports Group is set to bring back professional football to Sedibeng.

He said this initiative is a build-up to launching a football club which will be the pride of Sedibeng, just like the now-defunct Vaal Professionals. “Look, there is demand from the Vaal football people to bring professional football back and as Menza Sports Group, we really thought hard about this and this is not our first initiative.

At the beginning we wanted to help players who are out of contract to get the teams, but now people have faith that Menza Sports Group will bring professional football back to this region. Together we can achieve this and I have approached some of the football administrators and club bosses regarding this.

I want everyone to be part of this initiative and not only Menza Sports Group,” said Mazingiza. Mazingisa has worked for some high-profile Absa Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs such as Orlando Pirates and Platinum Stars. He started his amateur football career with the now-defunct Boipatong Real Rangers playing alongside the likes of Papi Zothwane, Lungisani Ndlela and Solomon Mathe to mention but few.
