SHARPEVILLE.- An altercation between members of the Sharpeville taxi industry and a school transport owner, Siphiwe “Spitjo” Mabaso (37) , became a nightmare when he was stabbed and killed last Friday in Tshepiso Phase 1 during a heated argument.

It is said that Mabaso was with his wife Refilwe Sefatsa in Vereeniging when he was called by his driver to come and talk to the group that was saying they had seen him offload people from the taxi and accused him of illegally overloading people onto his taxi.

Although the driver tried to explain that this was staff from a local firm that he usually transported and not fares he had picked up on the street, the group was adamant that he should not have done so. Sello Mabaso, brother of the deceased, said that Siphiwe was rushed to a nearby clinic where he succumbed to his stab wounds.

“I received a call that my brother had been stabbed and upon my arrival, I found that he had already passed on.” The father of four has been described as a lover of life and people. “He lived for his family and he always did everything to make sure that everything is all right in the house. We will miss him because he was a pillar in the family.” According to the family, a suspect has been arrested by the Sharpeville Police.

Sharpeville Station Commander Colonel Motshabi Mboyi confirms that a suspect has been arrested and that a case of murder has been opened.
“ The suspect appeared on Monday at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder,” concludes Mboyi.
