Foetus found at an illegal dumping site in Bophelong

The man opened a plastic bag only to be met by the foetus of a boy. He went to nearby houses to alert the owners who called the police and paramedics.

BOPHELONG. – A man who was collecting plastic for recycling at an illegal dump site in Bophelong Extension 4 came across an unexpected find on Monday morning.

The man opened a plastic bag only to be met by the foetus of a boy. He went to nearby houses to alert the owners who called the police and paramedics. On their arrival, together with local authorities, the foetus was declared deceased and nothing more could be done.

Ward Councillor, Nana Banda has warned residents against illegal dumping. Nana conceded that the municipality does not have enough resources to clean the area as most of the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) waste trucks have been reported broken.

An elderly woman in the crowd that gathered at the scene advised young women to go to their local clinics for prevention of such occurrences. “If you do not want to get pregnant, you had better attend the clinic. What kind of nation are we that throws unborn babies away?” she asked.
