SEBOKENG. – The Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre in Zone 14 Sebokeng was recently filled to capacity with ringball lovers. The crowd was called to the venue by Nomsa ‘Nnana’ Maseko and her mentor, Hennie Theros to witness the launch of this great sport in the township. Ringball and netball might be similar but they are played with different rules. According to Theros any person that has knowledge of netball can play ringball. Theros stated that the differences are minimal. “For example in netball players run throughout the court while in ringball players stay in their blocks, ringball shooters should not be obstructed, while in netball obstruction is allowed,” explained Theros. Maseko said they introduced ringball to the township firstly in Boipatong and it was warmly welcomed. Theros said the reason to introduce the sport to the townships is to create an impact on the community and to show that sport can unify communities. Before the games commenced Theros and his team had given lectures about the sport and practically demonstrated the game.
