DA members march against leadership

Card-carrying members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) demonstrated their anger against their own leadership in a march that took place in Vanderbijlpark on Friday Morning.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Card-carrying members of the Democratic Alliance (DA) demonstrated their anger against their own leadership in a march that took place in Vanderbijlpark on Friday Morning.

The group of DA members led by Kgomoco Makejane, crowded the DA Vaal Regional offices demanding to see DA Emfuleni North Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala. Sedibeng Ster was handed a copy of the memorandum which stated their grievances as they claimed they are free to speak public about their concerns.

Upon their arrival at the DA offices, Chabalala was not available. “We had to force the officials to call Chabalala out of a meeting, which they claimed he was in. The issues we have are more important than the meeting he was in,” said Makejane. She elaborated their grievances from the memorandum, which included:

* Unfair employment opportunity process at DA Vaal Region Office where jobs are reserved for certain individuals due to positions not being advertised

* Wanting to know why the DA activists must make appointments when visiting their DA regional office

* Why the current DA regional leadership is sidelining and punishing other DA activists that were supporting different leaders who were contesting against them during the 2017 DA Regional Congress in terms of job opportunities at the DA Regional Office?

* Why other DA members are running character assassination propaganda against other DA members without having proper facts about their issues?

“We demand a financial audit of DA constituencies and the DA Vaal Region. We also demand the employement of new DA constituency officers for West and South constituencies in the DA Vaal Region”. Seven working days were given to members of the leadership to respond to the issues tabled.

If not, Makejane said they are going to mobilise more masses to stop the DA event during Human Rights Day in Sharpeville on March 21. When approached for comment, Chabalala referred Sedibeng Ster to DA Sedibeng leader and Midvaal Local Municipality Mayor, Bongani Baloyi. At the time of going to print Sedibeng Ster had sent Baloyi an enquiry and awaiting response..
