Head-on collision leaves one dead, approximately 15 others injured

One man killed, approximately fifteen others injured in collision between taxi and bakkie

 

 

One man was killed and approximately fifteen others were injured yesterday morning (January 9, 2018) following a collision between a taxi and bakkie on Summit Road in Diepsloot.

According to ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring, paramedics from ER24, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find the wrecked taxi in the middle of the road. The bakkie was found lying on its side on the side of the road.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the body of a man, believed to be the taxi driver, lying a few metres away from his vehicle. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.

Approximately fifteen other patients were found on the scene. Two were in a critical condition while the remaining patients sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the two critically injured with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, one critically injured patients was airlifted to Lenmed Randfontein by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter. The second patient was airlifted by a private helicopter to a nearby hospital.

The remaining patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
