Ster’s sister newspaper, Lowvelder, reports that good rains fell in the Lowveld as well. Unfortunately the rain was on Wednesday accompanied by heavy storms. It especially hit areas such as Barberton and Mbombela (Nelspruit), which resulted in property damage in certain areas. Over  a 24 hour period the South African Weather Service recorded 81 millimetres of rain in the Barberton area and 44 millimetres in Mbombela.

The house of Mbombela resident André Nel was extensively damaged and his dog killed during a heavy storm on Wednesday. The dog was electrocuted by a cable dislodged from the roof.
