Emfuleni’s Mayor to appear in court

DA to picket outside court where Mayor Simon Mofokeng is set to appear on Friday, November 3

Tomorrow, Friday 3 November, the DA Vaal Regional Chairperson and Midvaal Executive Mayor, Bongani Baloyi, and DA Emfuleni Constituency Head, Kingsol Chabalala MPL, will be joined by DA activists in calling for the removal of Emfuleni’s ANC Mayor Simon Mofokeng.
This comes as the DA in the past week alleged in the media that Mayor Mofokeng was involved in the sexual grooming of a teenaged girl.

Further to this the DA has tabled a Motion of No Confidence in Mayor Mofokeng as they believe he is unfit to hold public office.

The DA has also lambasted the ANC in Gauteng for placing Mofokeng on “special leave”.
“We stand in solidarity with all victims of sexual abuse and violence across the province, especially in this case where a 14-year-old girl has been robbed of her innocence and dignity. The Emfuleni community has suffered enough under this Mayor, who has continually abused his position. It is high time the ANC took decisive action against Mofokeng and strip him summarily of his title, a title which he absolutely does not deserve,” the DA said in a media statement released today.
According to the statement, “Emfuleni deserves a leader that will serve the community and that will be proactive, responsive and responsible in dealing with the people’s money. Emfuleni deserves a new beginning.”

Details of the protest are as follows:
Date: Friday, 3 November 2017
