‘We are focussing resolutely and we are working tirelessly,’ ELM says

“We aspire to be a municipality where there shall be no potholes, where the trees shall be trimmed and grass cut, where there shall be no sewer and water leaks, where there shall be no electricity power failures, where there shall be no heaps of waste and where residents are paying for services rendered by the municipality. We are focussing resolutely. We are working tirelessly.”

EVATON. All Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) representatives are aware and keeping track of all the commitments they have made in public appearances and speeches. This was revealed by Mayor Simon Mofokeng while speaking during the State of the Municipality Address (SoMA) at the Wilberforce College in Evaton recently.

Mofokeng said that among others they have committed to establish specialised units for the youth, military veterans and religious leaders.“We had promised to set up these units as soon as our financial position improved, but sadly, this has not been the case as we are still battling a deficit in our budget and payment levels for municipal services have hit an all-time low.
“Our commitment to establish these structures remains intact and in sight – we must just keep implementing our Four-Pillar Financial Turn-Around Strategy engineered to improve our cash-flow.”
Mofokeng further added that ELM’s immediate challenges in service delivery include curbing water losses, unblocking sewer spillages, sealing potholes and rehabilitating roads, sustainable waste collection and replacing stolen and vandalised municipal infrastructure.
