Shebeen robbers make a run for it, leaving car behind

BOIPATONG. – A Winnie’s Park shebeen owner is still reeling in shock after armed robbers managed to seize a substantial amount of money, phones and a computer box from her home on Tuesday.

Matshepang Lesia who had received money from her stokvel on Monday  says two men dressed in blue overalls on pretences of being from a local municipality told her that they were making rounds in the area checking on electricity boxes.

Lesia let the men in and showed them where the electricity box was. Moments later two more men entered her house, closed the door and pulled out guns.

“They searched the house and found my husband in one of the rooms, they tied him up, went to the bedroom to look for the safe. They then instructed me to open it and took all the money that was inside.”Letsie says that they also tied her up and left.

Unfortunatley for the robbers, their “getaway car” would not start so they had to getaway on foot. Lesia was able to untie herself and subsequently ran outside asking community members to chase the suspects who were making a run for it.

The community were able to catch one of the suspect who has since been arrested. Police were on the scene for further investigations.
