SEDIBENG. – The 2017 winner of the reality show: One Day Leader – season 5, Sydney Madibo, who hails from the Vaal, says that he could not have done it without the help of family, friends, businesses, the Vaal fraternity as well as supporters from all over the country.

Madibo is the second participant from the Vaal to win the competition after Ndumiso Hadebe won in 2013. Madibo, who entered the competition for the second time after he came out as the second runner up last year said that this was nothing but the fruits of hard work and dedication.
“I feel very happy and am extremely humbled. It took sheer hard work, commitment and consistency to achieve what I achieved on Monday.
“My strategy going into the competition this year was to convince people that I am worth their investment.
“My friends campaigned extensively this year as we were more aggressive in terms of getting everyone to rally up and support the dream.” Madibo, who is a student at the North West University (NWU) studying towards his Bachelors in Education degree, says he believes that mentorship is a tool that can be used to change the lives of young people, especially those who come from townships.
“Mentorship is extremely important. If established people could take time off and help out kids from their communities, it would be easy for young people to achieve what they want to achieve.
“Mentorship helps us realise that our immediate surroundings do not determine where we are going to end up tomorrow.” Madibo is in the process of registering his company, which will be dealing with the development of young people.
“From here I just want to be involved in youth development and I also hope to finish my degree at NWU so that I can venture into the various opportunities that the future holds for me.”
