Unique opportunity to hear the Welsh Male Voice Choir of SA

Choir wants to raise funds for less privileged

The Welsh Male Voice Choir of South Africa will be in concert on behalf of the
Childhood Roads Institute on Saturday 20th May 2017 in Rosebank to help raise funds to
establish a home of Safety for Abused Women and Community Empowerment Projects
of the organization. The community of Orange Farm near the Vaal Triangle will also benefit by this project.

The primary purpose of the Childhood Roads Institute is to be actively
involved in reducing the impact of HIV/AIDS, unemployment, gender based
violence and child abuse in Orange Farm by conducting programs that aim to
reduce and prevent the pain and suffering caused by these issues, one of the
programs is a drop in centre for orphans and vulnerable children; the program
addresses the needs of OVCS and the centre work hand in hand with family
members and community leaders to ensure safety and proper care is guaranteed.
In the near future Childhood Roads Institute would like to establish a safety
home for abused women and an empowerment centre.

CÔR MEIBION CYMRU DE AFFRIG (Welsh Male Voice Choir of South Africa) is
considered to be one of the top five male voice choirs in Africa.

The Choir was formed in January 1978 and has grown to a current
membership in excess of 30 choristers.

Since formation the Choir has brought great delight to many of the
people of South Africa and in return has received strong support from
the community.

Their repertoire, apart from the famous Welsh tunes, encompasses a broad
spectrum of music covering Opera, Spirituals and African Traditional
music. Many of these items are sung in their native language.

In addition the Choir has a strong connection with the South African
Cambrian Society, and enduring links have been forged with a number of
organisations, resulting in regular performances for many events, such
as the Royal Air Force Association Battle of Britain Commemoration
Service, the Rand Light Infantry Commemoration Service, & the Walter
Sisal Botanical Gardens Carols by Candlelight charity concerts, as well
as fund-raisers for Hospices, Rotary, & numerous churches.

The Choir has the honour of being the first choir outside Wales to be
awarded membership to “The Welsh Association of Male Choirs” whose
President is HRH The Prince of Wales.

The choir has toured extensively, 1990 Namibia, 1992 “Choir of the World
10000 Voices” Cardiff and South Wales, 1996 Germany, England and Wales,
2000 Royal Albert Hall 1000 Voices Millennium Concert and North Wales,
and various tours around South Africa and neighbouring countries.

The Welsh Male Voice Choir of South Africa was selected to perform on
stage with Katherine Jenkins on her recent visit to South Africa.

The choir has also had the distinction of twice winning the Male Choir
section of the Roodepoort International Eisteddfod, 1987 and 1992. This
was the biggest and most prestigious Eisteddfod in the world at the
time.

Their concern for the increasing violence towards both women and
children has led to their being involved with this concert and we appeal
to everybody of similar ideals to support this concert at the Rosebank
Union Church, Cnr. William Nichol and Sandton Drive on Saturday 20th
May2017 at 18h30 price R120pp. Tickets are available form Berchmans
