Sonica a semi-finalist in Mrs SA pageant!

Lovely Vaalie needs your vote!

VANDERBIJLPARK. – The Vaal Triangle definitely has no shortage of beautiful women with lovely hearts! One more such a lady is Sonica de Klerk who has been announced as a semi-finalist in the Mrs South Africa 2017 Pageant.
Sonica grew up in the Vaal Triangle and moved to Pretoria in 2010, but now again resides between Vanderbijlpark and Johannesburg. She started her first company at the age of 22, and is now also the Operations Coordinator and Instructor of the L’Oréal Institute in South Africa.
Sonica is married and has been with her husband for the last seven years. On juggling her full-time job and preparations for the pageant she says: “It is a challenge. You constantly feel like you are neglecting one or the other, but the personal change it brings about in you, is absolutely worth it.”
Sonica is also a stylist for ghd South Africa and on the days she is not working at L’Oréal, she styles at events such as the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and any other ghd related events. She also did the styling on set of The Voice SA 2016 as well as Miss SA 2016.

On why she entered the Mrs SA pageant, she says: “I wasn’t a shy child, on the contrary, but as time goes by and life happens, you sometimes climb back into your shell and find expressing yourself more difficult than it once was. That happened to me. In my line of work, it is a big obstacle to overcome, as talking is something your work is based on completely. I was waiting for my husband at the airport one morning and I came across the advert for Mrs SA. Without giving it a second though, I realised that by putting myself out there and moving out of my comfort zone, I will be able to overcome this inherent fear of expressing myself.
“Mrs SA is not a competition between women, it is a competition with yourself, to become the best you can be. I am not in it to win it, I am in it to be transformed, to become more confident, and if it means winning the crown, it will be an absolute bonus, but I believe every women has their own invisible crown, sometimes it just takes putting yourself out of the box to find it.”

Only 25 women will be chosen to complete this journey through an intensive judging process on April 26 and 27.The panel of judges, comprising Principal judge Cindy Nell-Roberts (Former Miss South-Africa), Candice Abrahams (Mrs World 2016), Vusi Zwane (Emperors Palace Peermont Hotel Corporate Affairs and Corporate Social Investment Executive) and Unaiza Moideen (Businesswoman in the beauty industry) will be conducting these interviews and the top 25 will be announced on April 28 at the Mrs SA Cansa Gala Event, held at Emperors Palace. All the proceeds from these events go directly to the Cancer Association of South Africa.
