Bullets fly as comrades bury Schoeman

The final ‘last respects’ of gun salutes took up to five hours at a funeral service that was conducted in Zone 13, Sebokeng.

SEBOKENG. – All kinds of guns were fired into the air to bid a last farewell to the late platoon member of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veteran Association (MKMVA) Hendrik Ben ‘Schoeman Highway’ Moloi (47) on Saturday.

The final ‘last respects’ of gun salutes took up to five hours at a funeral service that was conducted in Zone 13, Sebokeng. Discharged were handguns, rifles and machine guns. Kebby Maphatsoe, national deputy minister of the Defence Force and MKMVA chairperson, delivered the keynote address and said that they had taken an order from President Jacob Zuma to defend the country mentionning that the expropriation of land without compensation is turning very slow.
“We should not be afraid to fight for our country that was taken by force without negotiations. The ANC resolution taken at Mangaung in 2012, speaks about ‘willing seller, willing buyer’ which is a very slow process,” he said. Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Executive Mayor Simon Mofokeng said, “When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and the country, he can rest in peace.”
Mofokeng assured the residents of stability in the municipality. “ The Emfuleni municipality is not under administration or being downgraded. There is no such,” he said. Moloi was laid to rest at the Evaton Cemetery.
