VEREENIGING . – Police spokesperson captain Fikile Funda has urged residents to put  safety measures in place as motor vehicle theft rises in Three Rivers.

“The make of motor vehicles that are being targeted are  Ford Rangers, Toyota-Hilux, Toyota Fortuner and any other 4X4. Drivers must if possible also avoid Union street as it is a hot-spot for smash and grab.”

Funda states that a total of 55 were arrested for various crimes last week and that they will all be appearing at the Vereeniging magistrate court.

“Break-ins  are now on the rise at various student accommodations. Targeted property is laptops. Landlords are advised to beef up security. People coming to do business in the cbd must not display their jewellery or leave their valuables unattended in the car where every person passing could see them.

“People must not use their IT equipment in public in the cbd or drive with their car windows open.”
