Over 70 undocumented people arrested

The past week saw 72 people getting arrested by the Vereeniging Police for being undocumented.

VEREENIGING. – The past week saw 72 people getting arrested by the Vereeniging Police for being undocumented.

Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda confirms the arrests, adding that more people were arrested for various crimes.
“Two people were arrested for shoplifting, five for possession of drugs, four for drunken driving, three for assault grievous bodily harm, one for fraud, two for possession of suspected stolen property, two for possession of house breaking implements, one for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, one for possession of an unlicensed fire arm, one for possession of illicit cigarettes, two for theft, one for a business break-in, two for malicious damage to property and two for house break-in and theft.”
The arrested persons will appear in Vereeniging Magistrates Court.
Funda warns against break-ins into student accommodation which is now on the rise as the targeted property is laptops. “Landlords are urged to beef up security.
People coming to do business in the CBD must not display their jewellery or leave their valuables unattended in the car where every person passing can see. People must not use their IT equipment in public in the CBD or drive with their car windows open,” Funda concludes.
