Ten lives lost to taxi accidents in two days

It’s understood the taxi veered across the road and slammed into a concrete bus stop when the driver tried to avoid a car in front of him.

SEDIBENG. – The Vaal is covered by a dark cloud, since Waterdale Road in Boiketlong claimed one life on Tuesday and on Thursday the R82 (the Old Johannesburg Road) claimed nine lives in the space of two days.

Unfortunately, Emmanuel Lereko Ntsheu was one of the persons who died on the scene in the Waterdale Road.
The family and wife of the deceased came to the scene to confirm his identity.
It is alleged Ntsheu was on the sidewalk when he was killed. Police spokesperson Captain Aubrey Moopeloa said the deceased is originally from Limpopo.
The accident occurred at around 07:30 in the morning when three vehicles collided, two Quantums from Vereeniging and a bakkie. “How the accident occurred is still a mystery that needs intensive investigation,” said the police spokesperson.
Meanwhile on Thursday a taxi accident on the R82 in Walkerville claimed nine lives. It’s understood the taxi veered across the road and slammed into a concrete bus stop when the driver tried to avoid a car in front of him. “Two people were left critically injured, while four others sustained serious injuries,” said Moopeloa.
ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said all those who were injured at the scene were transported to nearby hospitals.
Vermaak said, “The majority of them were ejected as the taxi overturned several times. The exact circumstances are not yet known, but it’s understood the taxi was the only vehicle involved in this incident.”
According to preliminary investigations between police, traffic, ER24 and Netcare, “The driver said something happened with the vehicle in front of him.“He swerved and lost control. The taxi headed into the concrete bus stop. This, through the impact, ripped the entire taxi apart.”
