Barrage house robbery mission foiled

They were not even aware that the Police Task Team and a detective were following them. This was after the police were tipped off about the suspects possibly ‘hitting’ a house.

THE BARRAGE. – Lady Luck recently eluded seven suspects of house robbery in Bloem Park smallholding in Barrage.

They were not even aware that the Police Task Team and a detective were following them. This was after the police were tipped off about the suspects possibly ‘hitting’ a house. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Sam Mofokatsane said that the suspects were caught with two unlicensed firearms.
An employee at the same Bloem Park smallholding, near Barrage Road was among the thugs. It has been alleged that there was a possibility that the employee leaked information to his cronies.
All suspects, between the age of 28 and 42, are from Orange Farms and Zone 7, Sebokeng. They were caught a few metres away outside the yard on Friday.
The suspects were travelling in a red bakkie using two different registrations but were nabbed before their mission could be accomplished. It is said that their aim was to rob, with the possibility of opening fire.
Immediately after they were cornered by the police, one tried to deny being part of the attempted robbery and told the police that he had simply asked for a lift, not aware ‘those people were armed.’
“It came as a surprise when the police appeared, pointed their firearms and ordered us to lie on the ground. The police fired a gunshot and I co-operated,” he explained.
The suspects were charged with attempted house robbery.
They appeared in the Vanderbjlpark Magistrates Court on Tuesday. They were remanded into custody for formal bail application on March 13.
