EVATON.- A 22-year-old man from Parktown in Evaton was arrested on Thursday around 11:00.
The Evaton Visible Police helped to arrest this suspect who was found in possession of a 9mm pistol by Evaton SAPS sector managers and members of the Social Crime Prevention Unit.
Captain Aubrey Moopeloa, police spokesperson, said, “The police were on a routine patrole when they met two suspicious young men, a 16-year-old learner and a 22-year-old who claimed he was not from the area. They were searched and a 9mm pistol was found on the 22-year-old suspect,” said Moopeloa.
According to Moopela, on further investigation police found that the firearm was suspected to have been stolen elsewhere in Zone 6 Ext 1.
Moopela confirms that a case has been opened and is being investigated. “Parktown section in Evaton is notorious for crimes such as business robberies of foreign nationals’ tuckshops, street robberies and car-hijackings and that is why we suspected that these two were up to no good,” said Moopeloa.
