Angry residents strip for clearance certificates

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Residents from all over the Vaal with repossessed houses marched to Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) offices demanding their individual housing subsidy clearance on Wednesday.

Marchers demonstrated their anger by stripping whilst they were waiting for officials who were coming to address them.

The march was led by Ndade Mxunya and other community members who told Sedibeng Ster that they were patiently waiting for their clearance certificates for all houses that are transferred by Individual Government Subsidy.

The angry mob found Mafoko Security Guards on the scene whilst the traffic department maintained law and order. They walked through them like giant elephants versus wild dogs. All gates were locked but that did not discourage the angry mob of elders who crashed down the gates and entered the municipal premises.

All they wanted were the clearance certificates – nothing else. “We are not here to listen to lies. We want our clearance certificates,” said members of the angry mob.

Housing MMC Cllr Jan Moshoadiba tried to calm the situation down but the angry community said they wanted nothing but clearance certificates. Clr Moshoadiba told the masses that they could not hand out the certificates since there were unresolved issues that needed to be mandated at a council sitting.
