VANDERBIJLPARK.- Police Spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale has confirmed that four suspects between the ages of 23-35years have been arrested in connection with a jewellery store robbery at the Vaal Mall on Sunday night.
Makhale says, ” It is alleged that 5 suspects stormed into the mall and overpowered the security guard, took his firearm,and broke the jewellery store window. The suspects stole a substantial amount of jewellery and tried to flee the scene.”
Makhale adds that the overpowered security managed to call for help from the other security guards and police. “Four suspects were arrested and one was injured due to a shootout. The suspects come from Yeoville and Vosloorus. We would like to applaud the security and police for working together to ensure that the criminals are put behind bars.”
Makhale concludes adding that business robberies have increased during the month of January.
