ANC deputy president a no-show at rally

BOPHELONG. - Some ANC supporters left the stadium immediately after they learned that deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa was not coming.

“It was not about the bad weather conditions. We were told that Ramaphosa would be addressing the community as part of the mini-rally build-up to the 105th birthday celebration of the ANC,” said one of the supporters on their way out.

The mini-rally was hosted at the Bophelong Stadium over the weekeend. Paul Mokhitli and Kaiser Manoeng echoed the same statement. They said they love the party and are happy about the 105th celebration. “No political party will take over from the ANC,” said the die-heart Kaizer.

The ANC National Executive Committee members who attended the rally included Joe Phaahla, Obet Bapela, Mcebisi Skwatsha, MEC Sizakele Malobane-Nkosi. They were welcomed by regional ANC chairperson Mahole Mofokeng, joined by Bhekie Ngobese, Maipato Tsokolibane, Robert Thema, Senzo Hlongwane. The rally started as a door-to-door in Polokong and ended up at the Bophelong Stadium. Shabangu said that, as the ANC, they want to assure the community that they are responding to their crisis.

“Currently we are busy with preparations to restore confidence in the people. The ANC has leadership with potential to lead. When we go to the next elections, we will remain strong,” she said. The main celebration featuring keynote speaker President Jacob Zuma, was hosted over the weekend at the Orlando Stadium, Soweto.
