VANDERBIJLPARK.- Just as the festive season ended and the new year commenced, Cassims was stormed by armed men on Friday afternoon.

These suspects entered the store pretending to be customers. All hell broke loose when one suspect pulled out a firearm and told everyone to be still.

Apparently one store manager (a woman) was about to leave the store. The suspect thought the woman had money and pulled her back into the store, pointing the gun at her.

The woman was then pistol-whipped with the back of the gun, whereafter the suspects fled the scene. The woman collapsed unconscious. A car-guard on the scene said he and fellow car-guards had to run for their lives when the suspects stormed out of the store.

“I was so scared I nearly soiled my trousers.I thought I was going die,” said a young car-guard. He claims that one suspect pointed a gun at them and they had to run for their lives.

Vanderbijlpark Police spokesperson Gertrude Makhale said that a case of robbery was not opened with the Vanderbijlpark Police Station. “We have no records of the case. However, since the victim was assaulted she must come to the police station and open a case of assault and attempted robbery,” said Makhale.
