Vereeniging’s ‘Bike Squad’ has arrived

Policemen on "iron steeds" to make Vereeniging's CBD a safer place for all.

VEREENIGING: – Criminals scatter while the business world rejoices because the SAPS Business Watch Bike Squad has recently been deployed in the central business district.

It was a great day for the station commander, Sonja Slabbert when she recently announced that the new unit on their “iron steeds” had been deployed in the central city. “I have great expectations that the Business Watch- motorbike team will put an end to the street and business robberies, snatch and grab and theft out of motor vehicles. This team is the beginning of great developments and the idea is to expand the team as new motorbikes become available” she said.

Her message to criminals in Vereeniging is short and simple “your days are numbered. We will make the business district safe and accessible to the whole public again.”

She said the Vereeniging police station had major safety plans for the business centre and the public will be kept in the picture. “You will see the difference,” promised  Brig. Slabbert.

In its first week her “Iron team” had already captured various criminals including cable thieves.

“Lots of thanks to all who sent feedback and words of encouragement. Please pray for my teams – for their safety and protection and for the community’s positive change in attitude towards the police in general. We really try to do our best,” she said. She invites everybody who would like to comment or make suggestions to send emails to Vereeniging-SAPS@gov.za
