AllCat Provincials

DENEYSVILLE. – The yearly AllCat Provincial Catamaran Competition held at the Stilbaai Yacht Club (SYC) over the weekend of October 14 and 15 was a huge success despite the weather.

With a total fleet of 38 boats on the water, day one started off with a steady wind but later turned into a nail biting experience for some of the sailors when the wind gusted up to 30km/h. The third race on Sunday was cancelled when the wind picked up to around 40km/h and tipped at least five boats within a few minutes. Some participants sailed to the nearest shore line to take cover from the devastating wind with a few raindrops in between.
The Dart 18 fleet of 24 entries resulted in first place for Ben Mienie and Letitia Mienie. In second place was Jaco Mienie and Connor Diesel and third was Verno and Natasha Brown. In the Dragon Fly Race, Manuel and Angelique Taposo came first with Kian and Bill Ellens second. The third spot was taken by Corrie and Cua du Plooy. The Halcat Fleet was won by Roger Hill, followed by Steve Hegerstrom in second place. Third place was shared by four entries – Sean Boyley who also sailed solo like Roger and Steve, Richard and Ann Baxter and Jaco de Bruyn and Kallie du Plessis. In the 0 Class there were only two entries and William and Gia Kieser took the glory with Peter Pace and Stewart Bremner in second place. The first prize in the Wind Rider fleet was shared by three competitors. This class is the Paraplegic Class and the Windrider catamarans are especially designed for them. Doug Boman, Francois du Toit and Grant Fisher shared the first spot, each with a total of 16 points.
At the clubhouse the children were entertained with a jumping castle, swimming pool, jungle gym and wide open spaces. Competitors, family and friends could relax in the bar or delight themselves with the food prepared by the club members.
The AllCat Provincial is a race not to be missed by any aspirant or pro competitor and it is open to any catamaran or sailboat owner to share a weekend with the Stilbaai Yacht Club members and their hospitality.
