Beauty comes in all shapes

VEREENIGING. - Sebeeya Mothobi (23) with the help of her friend Pretty Malindi (29) recently hosted an event dubbed #Nobodyshame.

The event was held in celebration of plus-sized women and their beauty. Mothobi says, “Having noticed that the media promotes being thin as beautiful, I saw the need to bring about this event as a way to let big women know that they are beautiful, no matter their size.”

Mothobi along with stakeholders managed to put together a fashion show where models wore swimsuits and fashion for plus-sized women. Music, poetry and dance also formed part of the event.
One of the guest speakers, actress Buhle Buthelezi, told the audience that being big and being in the spotlight brought challenges with it, although she has now overcome the obstacles: “You need to be confident and believe in yourself because you are beautiful.
“Beauty must never be defined by size. Self-love is the beginning of being confident.”
Malindi also performed a piece that interpreted the difficulties and stereotypes that big women face, saying that there was a need for change and acceptance in society.
Mothobi says she hopes this event can become annual, where women of all shapes and sizes come together in support of womanhood.
