VEREENIGING. – National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer was a huge success as the organisation, with the help of its “Cupcake Angels” and the public, were able to raise more than R1,7 million on September 24.
More than 3 000 Cupcake Angels volunteered and baked over 130 000 cupcakes which was sold at different venues in the Vaal Triangle and some 60 malls countrywide.
“The only requirement for the cupcakes were that they had to be made with love,” says Vereeniging business woman Sandy Cipriano, the founder of Cupcakes of HOPE.
“We are in awe with the amount of support we have received this year from all our bakers as well as the public who made a R10 donation for a home made cupcake. We are going to be able to help so many more families in 2017. Thank you Vaalies and everybody in South Africa who supported us! It was amazing to see how the whole community came together to help make a difference in the lives of our cancer warriors. Among our volunteers this year we had accountants, firemen, students and even a domestic worker who saw one of our leaflets – she just had to bake some cupcakes to help raise funds for our patients. We encourage schools and companies to become Cupcake Angels. This is by far the sweetest way to save a life!”
The funds raised so far has help more than 500 children by either paying for their medical of other day-to-day expenses. The charity also focuses on educating parents on the early warning signs of childhood cancer, this is available in 16 languages from their website, www.cupcakesofhope.org
The next awareness day will be happening on October 31, National Superhero Day. On this day you can support a cancer warrior by dressing up like a superhero, write your cancer warrior’s name on the palm of your hand and post it on social media. Funds raised on this day will be used to buy Christmas gifts for 13 oncology wards across South Africa.
