High scam alert to suppliers, prospective job applicants, service providers of ELM

"The municipality has been inundated with calls from people who have been defrauded, involving thousands of rands. In some instances, job applicants are requested to deposit R3500 rands into an unknown account or service providers have lost some business and investments because of these illicit dealings."

VEREENIGING. – Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Spokesperson Stanley gaba reports that the municipality is aware that there are unscrupulous individuals and companies claiming to be representatives of the municipality “fraudulently embarking on a recruitment drive for plumbers and electricians or using the municipality’s fake logo and letterheads to do business in the name of the municipality.  The culprits urge unsuspecting community members to submit their curriculum vitae’s for job positions or elicit tenders.

“The municipality has been inundated with calls from people who have been defrauded, involving thousands of rands. In some instances, job applicants are requested to deposit R3500 rands into an unknown account or service providers have lost some business and investments because of these illicit dealings.

“The municipality distances itself from such dealings, and urges community of Emfuleni and its service providers to be vigilant of fraudsters who takes advantage of the unemployed or desperate individuals who are earger to get employment and business transactions with it.”

Gaba further states that the municipality will never request any business person to supply equipment and goods without a legitimate Purchase Order Number.

“The municipality shall never request job applicants to deposit money or pay any money for any JOB APPLICATIONS. The municipality has alerted the relevant law enforcement authorities to investigate these scams, to protect business and job applicants as well as the name of the municipality.” Gaba concludes.

THE MUNICIPALITY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ACTIONS OR LOSS THAT MAY RESULT IN COMPANIES OR INDIVIDUALS BEING VICTIMS OF SUCH SCAMS.
