War against drugs escalated to people with disability

Regional Manager Michael Marubini assured participants that the Department of Social Development in partnership with NPOs and many Civil Society Networks was the correct platform that addresses challenges and situations of impaired people.

SEDIBENG. – In an effort to continue fight against substance abuse, Gauteng Department of Social Development in partnership with DeafSA recently conducted a substance abuse awareness at Ratanda New Hall in Heidelburg.

The objective of the campaign was to inform youth and people with disabilities on the danger of substance abuse and its impact in society.

Regional Manager Michael Marubini assured participants that the Department of Social Development in partnership with NPOs and many Civil Society Networks was the correct platform that addresses challenges and situations of impaired people.

In addition, he urged members of society to assist government in the war against substance and alcohol abuse.

“Let’s refrain from consuming drugs and alcohol. Drugs have continued to destroy youth and families are falling apart” he added.

DeafSA Provincial Director Ms Judith Madi urged government to also consider including sign language in their awareness campaigns. She cited that their exclusion in every government activities made it difficult for them to get the message.

Amongst other stakeholders present there were representative from South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drugs (SANCA) and Toughest Young Minds.
