ELM reduces grave tariffs

SEDIBENG. - The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has positively responded to the cries and concerns of the people who recently complained about the exorbitant prices of grave tariffs.

At its 85th council sitting recently, the ELM resolved to reduce the tariffs. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster ELM mayoral spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng said that through engagement with the leadership of the municipality and sectors of the community affected by the costs, ELM Mayor Mahole Mofokeng and his team have conceded that the tariffs are unreasonably high. “This was after they had a look at the research provided by the municipal manager and his team which showed that indeed our tariffs were higher than other municipalities which have the same economic profile as ELM.”

Lebo said that ELM MMC for Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Library Information Services, Parks and Cemeteries Edwin Kele is working with Municipal Manager Yunus Chamda and his team in a wide investigation which will ultimately determine an interim tariff for bereaved communities.
“Our interest and continued efforts in this matter prove that we are a responsive government that is open to suggestions that impact the lives of our communities positively.”
