Police received a tip-off from members of the public about three vehicles roaming Voortrekker Street at approximately 00:10, on September 5. The suspects were pulled over and a search of their vehicle was conducted.
Police spokesperson Constable Puleng Nkitseng said the suspects were found in possession of over 20 fraudulent bank cards, an unlicensed Z88 firearm, ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspects from Sebokeng, Boitumelo and Vanderbijlpark, aged between 25 and 35, were arrested and charged with fraud and possession of an unlicensed firearm. The cars used to commit the crimes will be released to its owners.
They briefly appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrates Court on Tuesday. The court will set up a new date for bail application.
