“When we came to work here in 2014, there was no proper system in place. Today, we have ensured that everything runs smoothly and that people can rest assured knowing that we will assist them in any way during the burial of their loved ones, even on a Saturday. Now we are being told that in two weeks time we will no longer have our jobs!”

The group said they no longer want to be on a contract under a private company and that they would like to be permanently employed by the Municipality. “We have families to feed, we also want our lives to be uplifted. We are asking for permanet jobs.”

The Employees were later addressed by the new MMC for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Library Information Services, Parks and Cemeteries Edwin Kele. Kele said he would revert to them with answers to their questions on Thursday Afternoon. The workers then resolved to go back to work until then.
