VEREENIGING. – Messages of shock and disbelief from all over the world are pouring in on social media in reaction to the unexpected death of Dr. Quintin Immelman (33) the past weekend.

Quintin was the son of well-known Vereeniging businessman Dr. Gary Immelman and his wife, Lorna.
The Immelman’s wide circle of friends and family learned of Quintin’s passing on Saturday when his father posted a message on Facebook, saying: “Lorna and I are devastated and beside ourselves. Our son Quintin passed away this morning due to a suspected heart attack. He would have turned 34 on the 9th of August.”
The sad news was followed by hundreds of messages of condolence which testify how much Quintin was loved and adored by his family and friends.
Vaalweekblad could not get hold of the family by printing time, but heard from family friends that Quintin, who was CEO of a company in the automotive industry, broke a leg in a recent freak accident while driving his motorcycle at home. He was well on his way to recovery when he unexpectedly died on Friday evening.Vaalweekblad’s sister publication, Ster, reported in September 2012 about the Immelmans when both father and son obtained Doctorates in Engineering from different universities during the same week.

Gary obtained a Doctoris Technologiae (Honoris Causa) Engineering and Technology from the Vaal University of Technology in Vanderbijlpark on the Monday and Quintin a Ph.D. Mechanical Engineering degree from North West University in Potchefstroom the Friday. A year prior, the Immelmans were also in the news when Gary was shot by robbers in a brutal attack at his home in Three Rivers. The attack in which Gary was seriously wounded in his abdomen and right arm, took place on July 25, 2011. Although mostly recovered, he still bears the scars and painful consequences of the attack.

Apart from his parents and sister Natalie, Quintin is survived by his wife Bonny and son Leslie (2). The funeral will be held this Friday at 11:00 at the Three Rivers Methodist Church. The service is to be conducted by Rev. Paul Bester.
