Police official killed on duty

Potchefstroom: The Provincial Commissioner of North West Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane has condemned the incident whereby a 32-year-old police official was killed in the early hours of today, 21 July 2016.

Potchefstroom: The Provincial Commissioner of North West Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane has condemned the incident whereby a 32-year-old police official was killed in the early hours of today, 21 July 2016.  The constable who was stationed at Hartbeesfontein Police station was killed while responding to a business burglary alarm at a local bank in Hartbeesfontein (Klerksdorp Cluster).

Preliminary investigation indicates that the deceased member and his colleague were responding to a call out from the local security company, and upon arrival on the scene the members were shot at by unknown assailants resulting in the fatal shooting of one member who was part of the crew in the response vehicle. The other member returned fire resulting in the assailants fleeing the scene in a vehicle of the security company which they earlier robbed from the security guard who arrived on the scene before the police.

Lieutenant General Motswenyane has passed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased. She further indicated that everything possible will be done to track and bring the heartless perpetrators of this heinous crime to book.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (HAWKS) are investigating the case.
