Residents of Waldrift have taken back to the streets protesting after a short visit by the Major tonight.
It is reported that residents started throwing plastic bottles at the Mayor after he told them that regardless of how they might feel about him, the Smartmeter-project will continue. He also tried explaining that the system is being put in place to try and stop illegal connections.
This exacerbated the situation and his bodyguards quickly ensured his safety by accompanying him to his vehicle, and left.
It was shortly after that, that a bakkie was reportedly seen bringing used tyres to the protesters who are once again burning tyres on the R72 (Old Johannesburg road).
