VEREENIGING. – South African Revenue Services (SARS) in Vereeniging CBD had to close it’s gates this morning due to an uncontrollable crowd. It is alleged that some people who only arrived later this morning wanted to go into the premises before those who spent the night there queuing to get assistance including those who arrived early in the morning.

The overwhelming  number of people is said to have created a confusion. Only those who had already been given tickets would be allowed to go into the  premises. SARS employees were seen trying to get  the situation back into order.

The Vereeniging SAPS including The Traffic Department was on the scene, trying to maintain law and order. Vereeniging Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says, “ We are here to keep an eye on the situation and ensure that matters do not get out of hand. The traffic department is also ensuring that motorists are not being disturbed. “

Funda adds that they are not doing this because SARS is a government entity but to make sure that no one gets hurt. “Should SARS decide that they are closing their doors today because of the uncontrollable crowd, we will just have to ensure that people disperse peacefully.”
