The joy of being reunited with her long-lost father was cut short when the 27-year-old Ikageng woman was raped by him over three consecutive days.
The mother of a one-year-old baby was overjoyed when she received a phone call from her neighbour in April, saying her father wants to speak to her over the phone. The identity of the caller was confirmed by the woman’s mother.
On the night of 3 April, he arrived with a friend to take her back to Carletonville with him.
“Three days later, her father told her they must perform a family ritual to welcome her that involved her stripping naked. She refused, however, and did not talk to him for two days,” according to Const. Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng spokesperson.
“At about 10:00 on 18 April, after his wife left the house, the father ordered her to undress for the family ritual in the bathtub. She agreed and started washing her body as part of the ritual. She was surprised when her father came in naked. He told her to wait in the bedroom and, when he came back, he raped her.
“The following day at about 08:30 when she was cleaning the house, he dragged her to his room and raped her again. After violating her for the third time the next day, he announced that that would be the last time he would have sex with her,” Trom reported.
“A week later, on 27 April, her father dropped her off at Fochville to catch a lift back to Ikageng. When she arrived home, she was afraid to tell anyone what had happened until her mother-in-law announced that they wanted to have a meeting with her father to negotiate her lobola negotiations.
The distraught woman opened a rape case and a protection order against him at the Ikageng police station last week. Trom says the Carletonville police are still investigating the case at the moment because the incident happened in Carletonville.
