VEREENIGING. – Vereeniging Police Spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda has warned the public about scammers on the popular OLX site who pretend to be selling merchandise at a cheaper price. Funda says that people must be careful as this is just a trap to con them out of their money.

“The interested buyer will contact the seller where an account number to deposit the money will be provided, the buyer will then promise to get the item delivered at a communicated
place and time.” Funda says by the time the item has to be delivered at a said place and time, the seller would have dissapeared into thin air.
“We are receiving about three cases about this every week.”
Funda reports that theft of motor vehicles and business breakings have gone down while house breakings have gone up during this period.
“We are still urging our community to keep their valuables out of site when they park their motor vehicles in town and for people that are driving open bakkies not to leave any tools.”
About 22 people were arrested in Vereeniging last week for various crimes. “All the arrested persons will appear in Vereeniging magistrate court soon.” Funda concludes.
