A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped in the veld between Top City and Sarafina at about 07:20 last Tuesday, while taking her 4-year-old son to pre-school.
According to Ikageng SAPS spokesperson, Const. Kelebogile Trom, the mother and the son were on their way from Ext. 6 to a pre-school in Kanana when they were approached by an unknown African man. The woman says she could not run because her son was on her back. The man, who was holding a knife, grabbed her hand and told her not to scream or he would kill her.
He took the woman’s bag and put it beside him, and flung her and the child on her back to the ground. He took her money and bank card and put it into her son’s satchel.
He then instructed the woman to undress and raped her while her son was watching and crying.
“I advise members of the community to avoid walking in bushy areas, passages and quiet spots. The veld between Sarafina and Top City is one of the crime hotspots in Sector 2, Ikageng,” Trom cautioned.
